Social Media Cover Watches

Cover Watches are area/community based Watches that use social media to communicate across a large number of residents that would normally overwhelm a co-ordinator of a street-Watch. Each Cover-Watch has a co-ordinator, but they are also an administrator of the social-media Group and manage the quality of the posts.
All Cover Watches meet the standards laid down by Surrey NHW. They may be an existing Residents' Association group, or a village community group, or one set up specifically for NHW. In all cases they are able to use the copyrighted NHW logo in their site and abide by a governance that need to be followed. These have been brought together in a Code of Practice. Any NHW Cover-Watch needs to meet this code as closely as possible. The Code has been approved by Surrey Police and its contents are aimed at ensuring the Cover-Watch is managed well and that the Police will be able to use any evidence or intelligence passed to them from the Group. These top cover Watches have been called "Cover-Watches", but they can just as easily be thought of as Area-Watches. For these social media Groups to be able to use the copyrighted NHW logo in their site there are a number of areas of governance that need to be followed. The Code of Practice can be downloaded <here>.

Is there a Cover Watch near you?

As Cover Watches have no hard boundaries they cannot be mapped accurately. Each borough in Surrey monitors the social media Groups and Pages and, if they meet the NhW Code of Practice, promote the Group/Page and encourage residents to join.
The maps below give the names of the Watches. Go to the group/Page's website and ask to join (if a Group) or just follow (if a page). That's all there is to it.
